Here at IN MAPS & LEGENDS Central, we’re always on the lookout for new digital distributors, large and small. With the start of the new year and the approach of Issue Four (launching next Wednesday!), Niki and Mike are happy to report that issues of our comic are now available at four additional sites.
This nifty, easy-to-use site set up by illustrator Dani Jones contains a wealth of indie comic goodness. You can snag a huge range of comics, all in PDF format, from the site. We’ve also got a free preview available there, if you’d like to read the first 8 pages from the start of our comic as a PDF.
What’s really cool about the site is that readers can easily drop a quick review or comment about a comic on that comic’s page — for example, if you go to the issues of IN MAPS & LEGENDS there, you can click on an issue and then click the Reviews tab to leave some feedback (hint, hint!). Creators love to hear from their readers, so… What are you waiting for?
For this next store, it’s a little tricky to share a direct link for the store, because it doesn’t live on the Net. It lives in that curious world of iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. So while you need one of those gadgets made by Apple to visit the iBookstore to download some iBooks, we thought it was worthwhile getting onboard with this distributor because as you probably know, Apple’s reach is quite extensive. And people with shiny new iPads are always looking for new comics.
Just do a search in the app for In Maps and Legends, and you’ll find all three issues, in English and German, with issue four coming next week as well.
I hesitated about listing this site, as it’s very much a work in progress — we’re still waiting for our comics to go “live” there in that you can preview an issue of MAPS there, but can’t actually buy one yet via the eBookstore (not to be confused with the iBookstore!). But this is Google, and they think big, so we wanted to get onboard with them early.
What I find interesting is Google’s goal to make books available on all platforms, via the “cloud” of wireless technology — you don’t actually download anything from the eBookstore. You just buy access to the book or comic, which you can then read anywhere, such as your phone, your computer, your Kindle or Nook. And Google keeps up with all of that version, and you never lose your place in what you’re reading.
So check out issues One, Two, Three, and Four there so far, and we’ll keep you posted on what happens next!
(If you want to try buying and reading something from the Google eBookstore, might we recommend Mike’s historical/baseball/ghost novel The All Nations Team? Only three bucks and change…)
We mentioned this earlier, but I wanted to remind folks, especially our European friends, that we’ve also made our comics available at this multilingual site. What’s really fun about this site is the little drop-down menu at the top right and change the language of the entire site with a click — from “American English” to “UK English” to German and French. Pretty slick! You can find issues of MAPS in German and English at XinXii.
We’re also trying to get set up with another largish distributor, Kobo Books, so when we get hooked with them, we’ll let ya know right here.
So go check out these other sites and load up your computer or reading device with lots of reading material, comics and otherwise, and we’ll see you back here on Wednesday, February 2nd, for the launch of Issue Four.
